One that actually makes the summer loving woman like myself actually yearn for cooler weather. As soon as August 1st arrives, I know that the warmth is almost over and I have to brace myself for the cold winter nights once again. Anyone out there that can relate??? Not only will the weather change but school is starting back! Personally, we'll have 3 in school this year and with the start of school, comes ideas of how to make it better than last year, what organizational strategies worked and which ones didn't. Normally, I plan to purchase new items that will help but this year, I've decided to make a few of my own from either what we already have within our home or warehouse and also checked out the second-hand stores around our area. Here are some of the ideas. If you've made any of these before or are interested in having We Chic'd It! help you make this happen, send us a message. Laundry rooms could use an update for easier washing/drying during a busy school schedule. Love this idea from Remodelaholic! There's even an easy meal planning concept that may work for you and your child(dren) during lunchtime! Just a few more.... don't forget to share your organizing ideas and let us know which DIY classes you want to take with We Chic'd It!
About the other weekend...... Video is live on Facebook The Hippie Fest in Charlotte, NC, was an amazing event! Great weather, amazingly friendly people, and great music as we celebrated peace, love, our earth, and life! Thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth! You checked out our upcycled items, refinished furniture, and even painted your own pallet signs. We appreciate your kind words of encouragement, suggestions for future upcycling projects, and we look forward to "Chic'n It" with you or for you.

Hippie Fest #wechicdit #reducereuserecycle #diy #palletsigns #hippiefest last day of #earthmonth As many of you have followed our videos on Periscope and Facebook Live, you know that during my birthday weekend, I made a spontaneous antique roadtrip. Below I've added pictures and commentary on what happened while road tripping in North Carolina. It all started with a suggestion of finding local antique shops and thrift stores along our route home on the highway. The only written down plan was to see the big highboy in High Point, everything else was going to be icing on the birthday cake. 🎉 First stop was Granddaddys in Burlington. They pride themselves on being the largest antique mall in the south. Looking from the outside, it's a little deceiving, however, once you step inside, it's amazing!!!! Rows and rows of booths that house antique furniture, trinkets, vintage clothes, accessories, and home decor items. Plus local, NC made products like jellies, BBQ sauce, upcycled items and much more! I was more than inspired to hurry back home and plan out my next trip here with my #upcyclejunkies friends. After making a few live periscope videos, making a small purchase of delicious local jelly, I decided that it was time for lunch and then realized that a diner was the only thing that they didn't have in this 2 acre facility. While planning lunch, we found a cute spot for wraps near High Point. The whole point of the trip was to see the big furniture that's literally sitting on the side of a building. Well, we made it! Too bad they weren't open. So we decided to take the scenic route through High Point and found the most amazing part of this adventure. High Point Market Week What I didn't know is that this week was specifically created for interior decorators. Since I am a business owner, I figured that I would fit right in, except without the big ID tag that the 1,000+ people were wearing. No worries, I'm already planning on attending or having our decorator attend next year. 😊 In the meantime, check out some of the furniture, home decor, & upcycle items that would fit perfectly within our store and our client's homes. This is how my face looked the entire time!!!! It was crazy! Not only did I want to rush home and start painting but I had a whole new view of how our business can grow. We we hope that you enjoyed following us on this road trip and hope you come along with us again soon. To stay up to date with the new items we get in stock, "like" our Facebook page, to become a part of our WCI VIP Perks list then sign up here, and to have us help find an item you want, submit your request here. Thanks! ~Flo w/We Chic'd It! #wechicdit #antiqueroadtrip #HPM This is our favorite time of year! The time when you begin cleaning out your house and find all the treasures that you've purchased from previous years.... Yes, years! You're not the only one that has items from years ago that go unused. How many times have you gone into your closet/garage and realized that you have an item(s) that you never use??? Well, this happens quite often in our line of work.. For the last few years, our goal has been to help those that want to repurpose their items instead of trying to find time to resell them. We can breathe new life into your everyday furniture and home decor items by adding new hardware, painting it in the new current style, or even revamping the entire piece so that it can be used in a different area of your home. Maybe you've found "That Piece", you know, the one that you bought last weekend at the neighborhood yardsale. But you just have to find the time and resources to make it look like the high end piece that you've had pinned on your board for months. Well..... We can "Chic it!" for you or with you! Don't worry If you haven't found that piece that speaks to you yet. We keep "Chic'able" furniture in stock that can be updated to the look that you want. In fact, we've even created a folder with everything that's available! Check out what we have in stock!
Either way, just know that we are here for you! We would rather help you find a solution for your furniture than to see it tossed in the garbage or leaf on the side of the road. Thank so much for helping to keep our Earth clean. :-) #wechicdit #reducereuserecycle Happy #earthmonth Looking at this picture of a pallet doesn't really excite you, does it?! We will have a monthly DIY project and will offer custom projects based on the class or party option you choose. Only requirement is a 5 guest/student minimum. Send us your class/party ideas and we'll get it planned for you. Tickets for current events are available on our store page. We get a variety of requests from painted furniture to DIY crafts and even custom built bars. The other week, there was a request for something that we see almost everywhere we go. Wood signs. From your local craft store, restaurants & bars, to watching DIY network, they seem to be popping up everywhere. Instead of having the exact same sign as everyone on Pinterest, why not make your own or have us help you make one for you! Here's one of the signs that were shared with us and asked that replicate or mimic the style. This sign can be made with barn wood, pallet boards, or even paneling. The customer had purchased two solid wood boards and the vinyl cling messages she wanted us to use. From there we began working. Such a big transformation once you add some paint, faux looking boards lines, and accentuate the natural wood. It's starting to look like wood planks. Of course, you don't have to make it look like planks of wood. Our goal was for the planks and we will distress it a bit more before we add the wording. Almost complete! Just needs a wood frame and sealant for easy cleaning. You always want to seal your artwork just as you would acrylic on canvas or stained wood furniture, to keep your work looking new for as long as possible. Here are the two finished pieces. Can't wait to see them in our customer's office space! Do you have Pinterest furniture/home decor projects that you've begun but haven't had time to finish? Yes, Frozen fever is real for kids & adults (Winter 2016). Check out what we did today! Here is a glimpse of our fun filled afternoon with reclaimed wood spindles, "oops"/mistinted paint, craft items, and other items that may already be sitting around at your house. We already had an idea of what a repurposed snowman would look like but until you actual begin creating your own, there are endless possibilities of the outcome. Some of us used chalk paint so that we could easily distress the spindle while others used latex paint. My hubby helped to create a much needed spindle holder out of pallets. See how easy it is to paint all the sides at once as well as easily distress it. Once each spindle was painted, we added accessories to bring the snowmen to life. Buttons, scarf, hat, and more! What do you think of our Snowman Squad?! Love this craft but don't have the supplies??? Order a Let's DIY Kit! Interested in other DIY classes???? Give us your thoughts and comments below. Thank you so much for your support during this last year, through our ups and downs, moving locations and all. We thought it would be fun to go back and review some of our favorite parts from month to month. Here are the highlights from January through June 2015. In January, we repurposed a dresser into an entertainment center by giving it a beautiful new painted red color and new hardware. In February, we finished a cute cottage dining room set with a white washed table top and new seat covers. By March, we had brought the antique hutch back to life with adding in glass doors, new hardware, darker stain, and added accent lights for a beautiful way to display her heirloom dinnerware. In April, we finished cleaning up the vintage secretary desk by removing damaged wood accent pieces, cleaning the hardware and painting it in a custom two toned style. By May, the antique secretary desk was being finalized. We had worked on this back in the Fall of 2014 but hadn't decided what color to finally paint it. Well, springtime, it had all new stain, was chalk painted, and drawers were lined. Isn't she a beauty?! June came by quickly with this very dramatic look for the vintage table set. Heavily distressed top with a lightly distressed base and shabby chic chairs. It is now one of our #1 selling styles. In July, we opened our doors to a new location and quickly began working on orders. The first updated piece was the lightly distressed white buffet with hutch added a nice antique touch. In August, we changed the look of the mission style entryway table with a torquoise blue base and white washed top. The customer added some wicker baskets for a quick and stylish storage option. When we hosted our soft launch in August, many of you saw the heavily distressed table and heirloom server. The table set was in the primer stage and the final painted look was in a mustard colored base with taupe chairs. The family heirloom server had a few pieces fixed and was stained darker to match the decor in its family's new home and went home in September. By October, the vintage buffet that we had for awhile, we finally had all the damanged veneer & doors removed, the top stained, and the base chalk painted. Then in November, we refinished a table set from the late 1800s/early 1900s to a new modern look with chalk paint and reupholstered seats. It arrived at the customers home just in time for their Thanksgiving dinner. December was all about holiday home decor items like Pallet Trees, Wreath Window Frames, & other fun one of a kind gifts. For pictures of these, please check our other posts. So for those that have always wanted to know who exactly refinishes the furniture and home decor items, we decided to share some of our action shots. It's definitely a team effort, as many hands make for light work. If you are interested in joining our team, please email us at [email protected]. Thanks again for your continuous support. We couldn't do it without you! Looking forward to many many more projects, challenges, antique and vintage furniture remakes.
Have a wonderful & happy new year! 🎇 |
