TIP OF the month

We love what we do!

Here's some of what we've learned from our own pieces, working on client pieces, and from our classes/workshops.  Enjhoy!
Tip of the Month
Furniture Maintenance/Cleaning
All furniture should be wiped down immediately after spills of water, food, oil, etc.  The sooner it is cleaned up, the less damage it can make to your piece. Daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance also helps with the longevity of your pieces.
  • Wood Furniture: Apply furniture cleaner (check manufacture's suggestion product) every six to 12 months to keep it's nature glow. For painted pieces, find out what was used as the sealant and follow the manufacturer's suggestions.
  • Leather Furniture: Apply a leather conditioner every six to 12 months to keep your upholstery soft and supple. The dryer the environment, the more often you’ll want to repeat this process.
  • Upholstery Fabric (Patio): Wipe down and vacuum upholstery fabric every three to 6 months,

What to look for when choosing Pallets

How to Find Pallets
It can be easy and hard to find pallets for your DIY projects, as they are a useful resource that is used daily by commercial and residential owners. Remember that most pallets won't fit inside of a small car so before you go hunting for them, make sure you know approximately how many you need as well as how you will transport them back to your home. Below, we've added a few ideas as to where you can find them, but please remember that this list isn't going to be the same for everyone as we all live in different areas around the country and the world. Also, they may or may not be free depending upon where you get them from.

Some suggested locations include:
  1. Quickest way - online!!!!  Go to Craigslist, Facebook, Varagesale, or any other website that give you local ads for pallet pickups
  2. Small businesses and restaurants
  3. Construction sites
  4. Distribution centers
  5. Institutions: schools & universities
  6. Ports
  7. Recycling Centers
  8. Manufacturing or processing plants
  9. Trucking and ship terminals
  10. Landfills

******Always ask an employee/owner of the business/residence before "stealing" their pallets. If they aren't available, don't fret, just go down to the next suggested location!

Stencils help you outline your text. They also are an easier way to ensure that your letters are straight.

*TIP* Use a fine tipped paint brush to clean up edges in the letters and/or images on your sign. You'll thank us later. ?
